President Bola Tinubu has officially endorsed Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Lagos gubernatorial election.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced this in a Facebook post. He had earlier endorsed Hamzat as his successor.
Sanwo-Olu described the endorsement as a “bold statement of trust, confidence and assurance” by the President, adding that Hamzat is “truly the best man for the job.”
“Femi has been a reliable partner,” the governor wrote. “Seeing him receive the President’s backing is a bold statement of trust, confidence and assurance by our leader, that he is truly the best man for the job.”
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence that the vision for a “Greater Lagos” that both he and Hamzat have pursued would continue under Hamzat’s leadership.
“There is still much to be done but the path ahead for Lagos is clear,” he stated.
The announcement signals early consolidation within the APC ahead of the 2027 polls in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
