African Democratic Congress( ADC) presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has described the ruling of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed the Senator David Mark led National Working Committee ( NWC) as the leadership of the party as reaffirmation of due process in sustaining democratic institutions.
Hayatu-Deen, who is also a former Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), in a statement by his media office, stated that the integrity of internal party mechanisms must be protected from external manipulation.
He noted that sustainable democracies are anchored on strong institutions, stating that institutions are credible “when rules are respected, processes are transparent, and outcomes are guided by law rather than expediency.”
According to him, “this ruling underscores the necessity of preserving the sanctity of Nigeria’s democratic space. The internal processes of political parties must not be subject to artificial distortions, as they are central to the health and legitimacy of our democratic system.
“However, beyond the immediate legal implications, we must situate this development within the broader realities facing our nation. Nigerian households are contending with rising living costs, terrorists, bandits and kidnappers continue their deadly campaigns against defenseless citizens, industries are paralyzed by uncertainty and high operating costs, and millions of young people are seeking meaningful economic opportunities which are either non-existent or too often denied.
“The imperative before us as a party is clear: we must provide a vision of safety, opportunity and prosperity for the Nigerian people. The stability that this judgment brings to the African Democratic Congress must now be translated into a coherent strategy for national development.
“What ultimately matters is the delivery of measurable improvements in the everyday lives of Nigerians in the areas of security, cost of living and jobs.”
