Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola fielding questions from reporter
From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta
Former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Sarafa Tunji Isola, has collapsed his political structure in support of the consensus governorship candidate of the party, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola.
The political structure, comprising 24 support groups across Ogun State, therefore, announced their endorsement of Adeola and declared their intention to work for his emergence as governor of the state in 2027.
Speaking at the adoption event at Ibara GRA, Abeokuta residence of a leader of the APC, Joju Fadairo, he said he decided to collapse his political structure for the party consensus governorship candidate in order to strengthen his position ahead of the general election slated for next year.
The former Minister of Steel Development added that the political structure he had built over the years would commence work in earnest to mobilise grassroots support for the senator.
He expressed optimism that the combination of Adeola’s political structure and the 24 support groups would ensure victory for the APC across Ogun in 2027.
Responding, Adeola expressed delight at the decision of the support groups to work for his governorship ambition and thanked Ambassador Isola for his display of political maturity.
He disclosed that the event marked a major turnaround in his political journey, assuring the group that he would not take their support for granted.
“This is the second in a row that I will be meeting with Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola on this journey. And I am happy that our meeting has been positive. He has agreed to work together with me and I also agreed to carry him along in this governorship journey. I am excited by this and thank the groups for the endorsement. I will not take you for granted.
“As a politician of many years, I know the meaning of support groups throwing their weight behind you. It is a big deal. I will partner with them so that together we can take Ogun to the next level,” Senator Adeola stated.
Earlier, the senator had met with the Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello where the duo agreed to work together towards the victory of the APC in the 2027 poll.
