Several passengers sustained injuries on Wednesday morning after a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle caught fire while moving along Ikorodu Road in Lagos state.
The incident reportedly occurred around 6:30 a.m. inward Majidun when flames suddenly erupted from the engine compartment of the bus.
Eyewitnesses said commuters screamed and rushed to exit the vehicle as the fire spread.
Shade Jimoh, One witness described the situation as chaotic, noting that the bus had been moving normally before flames suddenly burst out from the engine area.
Some passengers reportedly struggled to escape as the fire intensified, briefly trapping them during the evacuation process.
Although several passengers sustained injuries, no fatalities were recorded.
Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service officials responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at 6:48 a.m., arriving on scene by 7:01 a.m. at the Majidun Boma filling station area.
According to the Shakiru Amodu, agency’s spokesperson, firefighters arrived at the scene near the Majidun Boma filling station area by 7:01 a.m. and successfully contained the blaze, preventing further damage.
Authorities said the exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, although some witnesses suggested that a mechanical fault may have triggered the incident.
