Senate confirms Taiwo Oyedele as minister of state for finance

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Taiwo Oyedele as minister of state for finance in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Oyedele will succeed Doris Uzoka-Anite in the role.

The confirmation was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio after senators approved Oyedele by voice vote at the committee of the whole.

During a two-hour screening, the 50-year-old economist highlighted his over two decades of experience across national governments, multilateral institutions, global corporations, and academia, emphasizing his focus on fiscal governance and economic transformation.

“This moment is not about personal accomplishments; it is a call to serve at a critical time when Nigeria faces significant fiscal challenges and remarkable opportunities,” Oyedele told the lawmakers.

Before his appointment, he chaired the presidential committee on tax reforms, leading the development and implementation of Nigeria’s new tax framework.

Oyedele expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the Senate for the opportunity to serve, stressing his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s fiscal and economic objectives.
