Residents of Lagos State on Thursday staged a protest over persistent power outages.
They expressed frustration over what they described as worsening electricity supply in the state.
The demonstrators were seen marching through the Fadeyi area, carrying placards and chanting slogans to demand improved electricity supply.
In a video circulating on social media, the protesters criticised the power situation, saying the unstable supply was crippling businesses and making daily life difficult.
Some of the placards displayed messages such as “No more estimated billing,” “No more epileptic power supply,” and “No light, no life, no nation.”
One of the protesters in the video said residents were demanding reliable electricity rather than temporary or irregular supply.
“We are not asking for too much. Make them give us light,” the protester said.
The protest comes amid similar complaints in other parts of the country over unstable electricity supply and high electricity bills.
In Osun State, members of the Nigerian Youth Congress in Boripe local government recently condemned the lack of stable electricity, describing it as harmful to economic activities.
Likewise, business owners in Effurun and Uvwie areas of Delta State reportedly organised a peaceful protest earlier in the week over high electricity tariffs and irregular power supply.
The development follows a warning by Joy Ogaji, the Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Power Generation Companies who cautioned that Nigeria’s electricity crisis could worsen in the coming weeks.
Ogaji said gas suppliers were threatening to halt supply to thermal power plants over an estimated N3.3 trillion debt owed by power generation companies.
