Aminu Tambuwal, a former governor of Sokoto State, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter dated March 11 and addressed to his ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri, the senator representing Sokoto South in the Nigerian Senate cited the “persistent internal crisis” and “ongoing conflicts” within the PDP as the reason for his decision.
He announced that he would be joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal said his decision came after “deep reflection” and “extensive consultations”.
“The leadership disagreements and divisions within the party at various levels have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my active participation and commitment as a member,” the letter read.
“The ongoing conflicts have, unfortunately, weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party.”
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nigeria expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities it gave him to serve Nigeria in different capacities.
Tambuwal also stated that his decision was guided by his belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the service of Nigeria and to the ideals of democracy, justice, and national unity.
